Shifter Modification 2

In taking on this project, I knew one tool I would definitely need.... a welder. I purchased an "inverter" arc welder for $100 at Harbour Freight tools. About the size of a lunch box, it is an absolute necessity when working with metal. How did I learn how to weld..... watching my dad.

At right, the 2 sections were slowly welded and fitted together. The tunnel actually changes shape over its length, so when swapping the sections, a little "persuasion" was needed to line everything up.

Another view from the passenger side. No, it's not perfect but good enough for me. Structurally sound and it will get covered up.

Next comes the e-brake. It would interfere with the shifter,
so it gets moved back 7" as well. Note the heater controls.

Same concept here cutting 2 sections and then swapping them.
This made the job more manageable. I tack welded the front section to create an access door for future needs. Note the e-brake cable ends for use when shortening cables.

Since I'm not using the stock heater boxes, I have removed
the heater levers and will convert to dash mounted controls. I've
also installed an Empi short throw shifter which feels nice so far. All painted up, ready for sound proofing and carpet.
